There appears to be some kind of status on the Gmail system which prevents emails from being downloaded using Pop3. Does anybody now of an email status which would cause POP3 to ignore them. The emails are only words and without any attachments, but there seems to be something that IMAP does to only some emails which hides them from POP3. If I don’t look at the emails on my iPhone Gmail app, then there is no problem, if do then only some emails will not download. Moved from: Outlook.

We need to gather more information for us to better assist you on your email concern. Kindly answer the following:. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. We would like to know the settings of your Gmail account in Outlook so that we will know what is causing the issue. Also, kindly answer all of the questions above for us to better assist you on your email concern.

The Gmail settings that I have are correct and exactly what any technician would expect them to be. Configure your email client e. Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail – my outlook settings are correct. Outlook, Thunderbird, iPhone : the iPhone settings are correct. When Pop access the messages, they are not deleted, but instead they are placed in the trash folder.

Hence if the user selects to “Enable POP for all mail even mail that’s already been downloaded ” then the POP downloads all the mail in the trash and places it into the Outlook inbox. If the user selects “Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on ” the stuck emails do not get downloaded, because their date is old.

If the stuck emails are forwarded to another or the same Gmail address, then their date is old so POP fails. If the stuck emails are forwarded to another Non-Gmail address, then this proceeds, because the rules are different.

Sometimes when I read an email on my iPhone, the Outlook does not download them, they become stuck. I do not know the reason why this happens, but I do know that I can go into my iPhone Gmail app and look in the Bin folder to find the email which I can then forward to a non-Gmail address.

They are not allowing the downloads from a specific date instead they simply insert today’s date or specific folder. This effectively damages the Inbox plus the Outlook file size can potentially double and cause hard drive full or near full condition. Users are not always familiar with the large numbers of messages in their Gmail archive folder.

Allow the download of email messages in a specific folder for example InBox, or Archive -they should never automatically send thousands of previously read emails to a POP3 user and this can be a damaging act. Based on the information you’ve provided, there may be an issue with the settings of the Gmail app on your iPhone. Just to clarify, can you please tell us when exactly did this issue start?

We asked in our first reply if you’re also experiencing the issue when accessing you emails using the Gmail website itself. If you haven’t tried it, we suggest that you do so. This will help us confirm if the issue is with Outlook or the Gmail app. I have had lost email problems with Gmail now for some months, I do not know why, but it is basically a problem where I cannot debug what the Outlook rules are actually doing because they are an unfriendly system to use. So the problems that I have with Outlook are because I have around folders and sub-folders, plus I also have around rules.

Emails get lost and I do not know which folder that they may or may not have been copied into. The Rules and Alerts window that Outlook uses are a fixed size and much too small for the amount of data displayed I can only see a small 7 rules at the one time which makes this very hard to manage, on my large screen this is ridiculous. If only there was a log of incoming emails and where they were copied to, that would be of great assistance.

Managing Rules and Alerts is unnecessarily difficult at a time when SPAM emails have increased to almost epidemic levels and users often have four or more unrelated Themes to their work. However it cannot be found anywhere in my outlook. It did not go to the folder where all emails from this person normally get moved to. When on my iPhone I move the email from Bin back into Primary, it sits there and does not get downloaded.

Like what we’ve mentioned, there is a possibility that there is an issue with the Gmail app on your iPhone. The app may be hindering Outlook from downloading your email messages when you read them using it. Kindly isolate the issue by not using the Gmail app and use the Gmail website instead. Once you’re in the Gmail website, wait for a new email and read it from there.

In Outlook, POP3 has a setting to leave a copy of the email on the server, but this seems to be ignored by the Gmail server. The overall interpretation is that when the system is too busy, that Outlook is failing to download my emails before some kind of POP3 status change is made on the Gmail server. Perhaps there is an outlook pop3 log which will show me what their system has done and what rules have been run.

Hi Philip, We need to gather more information for us to better assist you on your email concern. Kindly answer the following: In Gmail, you need to enable the POP settings so that you can use POP3 when setting up your email account in email applications.

Can you please tell us when did you set up the POP settings in Gmail? In Outlook , you can set up your POP3 email account to get the emails from the server and delete them right away or you can set it up to leave a copy of the emails in the server. What are the emails that you cannot see in Outlook ? Are those the emails that you’ve already read using the Gmail app on your iPhone? Can you still receive emails from your Gmail account in Outlook if you’ve already read them through the website of Gmail itself?

In your Gmail account page, do you have other email folders aside from the Inbox folder? We need to know this because POP3 email server type will only get emails from the Inbox folders. How satisfied are you with this reply?

Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to Argel Obm’s post on February 12, Thank you for replying to my post. I will check these settings and advise later this week. Why are emails getting stuck: Sometimes when I read an email on my iPhone, the Outlook does not download them, they become stuck. What Gmail is doing wrong: 1. What Gmail should do: 3. Thank you for reading this email. In reply to PhilipBest’s post on February 14, Let us know how it goes. In reply to Argel Obm’s post on February 14, Then and only then can I successfully debug the interaction between Outlook and GMail.

Outlook Summary: 4. One was a very short email but with a longer email below it the previously sent email. It was in my iPhone inbox as an unread email. I cannot remember how the other stuck email got there, anyway I have now deleted it. Emails that were in bin and are moved to Primary get ignored by outlook POP3 download. In reply to PhilipBest’s post on February 16, Keep us posted.

In reply to Argel Obm’s post on February 18, I know that: When the emails show on my iPhone, they also show on the gmail website app. Both Interfaces always show the same data and I cannot see any difference between the iPhone and the Web browser, except that the iPhone app calls the Trash folder as Bin. When Outlook uses Pop3, it talks to the Gmail server not to the above apps. However these important emails never showed on my Outlook system and I don’t know why or where they have gone to, but I can look at them in their deleted folder using either the iPhone or Web app.
